WIDE OF BREWERS CELEBRATING  STORY: The Milwaukee Brewers hit three solo home runs and used five pitchers to combine on a four-hitter, securing a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs in Game 5 of the National League Division Series on Saturday (October 11) to advance to the National League Championship Series. The Brewers, who hold the No. 1 overall seed and home-field advantage throughout the postseason, will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS starting Monday. This marks Milwaukee's first playoff series win since the 2018 NLDS; they lost to the Dodgers in seven games in the NLCS that year. William Contreras, Andrew Vaughn, and Brice Turang provided the offensive spark for Milwaukee with solo home runs. Vaughn broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning with a two-out homer off Colin Rea (0-1), while Turang added insurance in the seventh with a two-out homer against Andrew Kittredge. Contreras opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-out shot off Drew Pomeranz. Hard-throwing rookie Jacob Misiorowski (2-0) earned his second win of the series, allowing Chicago's only run—a leadoff homer by Seiya Suzuki in the second—while yielding just two singles over four innings. Misiorowski struck out three and walked none, setting the tone for Milwaukee's bullpen. Abner Uribe pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save. The Cubs failed to capitalize on opportunities, leaving two runners on with no outs in the sixth inning. Milwaukee's defense and pitching shut down Chicago's offense, marking the first time in the series that the Cubs did not score in the opening inning, as All-Star closer Trevor Megill delivered a perfect first frame. The Brewers took the first two games of the series at home before the Cubs rallied with two wins in Chicago, forcing the decisive fifth game. Milwaukee now aims to advance to the World Series for the first time since 1982.
