(SOUNDBITE) (English) ITALIAN TENNIS PLAYER AND DAVIS CUP CHAMPION, FLAVIO COBOLLI, ON TURNING HIS MATCH AROUND, SAYING: “No, at the end, I’m happy because I played my best tennis at a crucial moment.” CAPTAIN, FILIPPO VOLANDRI, SAYING TO COBOLLI: “And this is the best day of my life.” COBOLLI, SAYING: “And this is the best day of my life.” 5. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ITALIAN TENNIS PLAYER AND DAVIS CUP CHAMPION, MATTEO BERRETTINI, BEING ASKED WHAT IT WAS LIKE WATCHING COBOLLI’S MATCH AND, SAYING: “It was stressful. It was stressful because I was selected, like everybody else, for doping (routine testing). So, after my match, I had to do what I had to do. I was like, ‘OK, I’m going to miss the first 20 minutes’. And the first 20 minutes was the first set. Lorenzo (Sonego) actually texted me, ‘Come here, we need you’. And we started screaming as loud as we could. I think that's the strength, the weapon that we have. We are so together. We play together. Doesn't matter who's playing. We're playing in five every time, and six, actually, with the captain. It was a team effort even though we played just two singles. That's why it feels special.” 6. ITALY CAPTAIN, FILIPPO VOLANDRI, TAKING A QUESTION 7. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ITALY CAPTAIN, FILIPPO VOLANDRI, ON IMPORTANCE OF WIN, SAYING: “We won three Davis Cups, but this one is completely different in front of our crowd, in our country. Yeah, from my side, I didn't cry for the first two, but I cried for this one because it means a lot for me. I have to only say thanks to these guys. They are amazing. Their effort. This unbelievable trophy. I'm so proud. We all have to be proud of these guys." 8. PRESS CONFERENCE UNDERWAY 9. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ITALY CAPTAIN, FILIPPO VOLANDRI, ON TOP PLAYERS FROM BOTH COUNTRIES NOT COMPETING, SAYING: “No, what I said the one week before the competition started, I didn't want to talk about who was not here. I'm just talking about who's here. I'm talking about these unbelievable guys. You can have the number one in the world or not. What makes the difference, as Matteo said, is the connection with everybody. We have a great connection. We have great players. Some players, like even (Luciano) Darderi, (number) 26 in the world, is not here. They all deserve to be part of the team. I only can bring five players. Still, I'm just thinking about these guys that made again something unbelievable.” 10. PRESS CONFERENCE UNDERWAY 11. END OF PRESS CONFERENCE STORY: Italy captured a remarkable third consecutive Davis Cup title on Sunday (November 23) with Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli winning their singles matches for a 2-0 triumph over Spain in the best-of-three tie in Bologna. Inspired by loud support from the home crowd, Berrettini dispatched Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3 6-4 in the opening match before Cobolli overcame Jaume Munar 1-6 7-6(5) 7-5 to seal the triumph for Filippo Volandri's side. The victory over six-times winners Spain marked Italy's fourth Davis Cup crown overall, following wins in 1976, 2023 and 2024. Italy also became the first nation to win three consecutive Davis Cup titles since the Challenge Round was abolished following the 1971 event. Both teams were missing key players, with Spain deprived of Carlos Alcaraz and Italy without Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti. (Production: Kurt Michael Hall)
