(SOUNDBITE) (German) KOSOVO COACH, FRANCO FODA, SAYING: “No, for us the next and most important match is tomorrow, tomorrow against Switzerland. And as I’ve already said, we want to perform well. We want to show a different face. We want to try with all our might to decide this match in our favour here in front of our home crowd. We’ve put together a good run recently and we want to maintain it, or even build on it. And therefore, we will play with the best possible team tomorrow. I hope that all the players— we just had the final training session— that all the players are fit. Of course, I’ll speak with one or two players regarding their fitness, and maybe, despite everything, we’ll make one or two changes for tomorrow’s match.” 15. KOSOVO TEAM DURING PRESS CONFERENCE 16. (SOUNDBITE) (Albanian) KOSOVO DEFENDER, ALBIAN HAJDARI, SAYING: “I believe that every match is as important as any other. At the moment, we’ve had a very good run of games, except against Switzerland where we lost the first match. But in the other games, we either won or took a point. And in tomorrow’s match we will go in for the maximum, to get a victory and take the three points. In the last match (with Slovenia), we made history, but we want to make history again by taking the three points.” 17. SWITZERLAND SQUAD DURING TRAINING 18. SWITZERLAND PLAYERS JUGGLING BALL 19. It might even be in our own hands to determine that tomorrow. I think it’s important to keep up the level of focus, to show respect toward the opponent, and also to show that yes, we want to impose our game tomorrow. We’re not thinking about a horror scenario, we never had to, and we won’t do that tomorrow either. I believe the team has enough quality and enough experience— from what they’ve seen in other matches, and what they’ve experienced themselves. So first and foremost, we need to play our game, and then I’m convinced that tomorrow, we will have a good match and a good result.” 22. SWISS TEAM DURING PRESS CONFERENCE 23. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SWITZERLAND GOALKEEPER, GREGOR KOBEL, SAYING: “No, I don't think we are surprised (to see Kosovo in playoffs). I think we know that Kosovo has a very good team. They are fighters as well. I think we know that. I think in Switzerland, it was the first game. We played a really, really good first half. We were very efficient. We made it very difficult for them. And after, I think they recovered really, really well. They had two great wins against Sweden. They had good games against Slovenia. So, I think we know they're a good team with a good team spirit. And we know what they are, that they have a lot of quality and what they are capable of.” 24. VARIOUS OF SWITZERLAND SQUAD TRAINING STORY: Kosovo have already secured at least a place in the World Cup playoff round, but they face an almost impossible task if they want to qualify directly for the finals: they must beat Switzerland by at least a six-goal margin at home on Tuesday (November 18) and top group B. Both squads trained in Pristina on Monday (November 17) ahead of their final qualifier which will determine which of the two tops the group and qualifies directly to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The team finishing second will go to the playoffs. The Swiss currently top Group B on 13 points, three ahead of Kosovo, who are in second place on ten points. Despite Kosovo’s good form of late, beating Switzerland by six goals will be an uphill battle. But with a playoff spot already secured, the team says it will play with confidence and keep some hope alive for a direct qualification. If Kosovo do manage to qualify, it would be their first appearance in a World Cup since declaring independence in 2008 and becoming a member of UEFA and FIFA in 2016.
