Whenever you started winning, people that had nothing to do with tennis liked tennis. This was because of you. So, you're not only one of the best players in tennis of all time, you’re the most important sportsman of all time, because the way you carry yourself, your character, your personality, the way you play tennis – nowadays they all play with the two-handed and puffing and huffing, and you had an elegance about you. You made it look so easy. So, people like us look like fools because we're falling around the court. And another thing that's amazing until now is that I don't know anybody that doesn't like Roger Federer and that goes until today. So, well deserved, well done joining the club." 4. FEDERER SPEAKING TO 12-TIME GRAND SLAM, ROY EMERSON, ON CALL 11. (SOUNDBITE) (English) FORMER MEN'S SINGLES WORLD NUMBER ONE AND 20-TIME GRAND SLAM WINNER, ROGER FEDERER, SAYING: "This is definitely the best video call I've ever had – and, you know, we've had some through COVID and all that stuff. And there were some good ones, you know, but this one tops it all. So, I mean, thank you Kim (Clijsters), thank you Patrick (McEnroe) and all the legends. You know, I see you all in the screen. I appreciate all your kind words. You've showered me with compliments. It's a little uncomfortable, I must admit, but I'm looking forward to the journey that leads to, you know, the Hall of Fame and finally coming to Newport, a place I've only heard great things about. And I remember when Pistol Pete (Sampras) told me also same thing about what some of you have said, like, you don't know what's going to hit you once you come to Newport. So, I'm looking forward to it. And I wanted it to be here where it all started for me, so that's why the kids are here. I had the most magical career and I hope they get inspired. So, thank you." 12. FEDERER WIPING HIS EYE 13. (SOUNDBITE) (English) FORMER MEN'S SINGLES WORLD NUMBER ONE AND 20-TIME GRAND SLAM WINNER, ROGER FEDERER, SAYING: "I mean, the honour is a really big one for me. Being recognised by the International Tennis Hall of Fame. To be inducted, you know, in a little bit under a year now, feels amazing. I'll never forget the words of Pete Sampras when I asked him, ’how was it, the Hall of Fame? Did you enjoy it? Was it better than you thought it was?’. And he told me, ’Roger, I have no idea what's going to hit you. It's so emotional looking back down memory lane, being at the sort of home of tennis. It felt magical’. And for me today, the way I got the video call from Kim Clijsters and Patrick McEnroe was beautiful. And then having all the legends talk so nicely about me and showered me with compliments was incredible at a place that means so much to me. You know, I’m so incredibly grateful to Swiss tennis. Today, the street where we are right now is called Roger Federer Street, and it was also a message and a way to show the kids, if I can do it, you can do it, because I had no idea at 13, 14, 15, 16 years old, that I was going to make it into the Hall of Fame, or that I would win Wimbledon or become world number one. I knew none of those things and the uncertainty was real, and I think I was able to share that with them and have them take part in something super meaningful to me. I cannot wait to go to Newport, Rhode Island. I've never been there. So, I'm looking forward to it and hopefully see all the legends there, and I'm really happy that I can join the club." 14. FEDERER DURING INTERVIEW 15. FEDERER BEING PRESENTED WITH A PHOTO COLLAGE MADE UP OF MOMENTS FROM HIS CAREER STORY: Roger Federer will be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame (ITHF) in an induction celebration set for August 2026 in Newport, Rhode Island, the ITHF said on Wednesday (November 19). Federer won 20 Grand Slams, the first male player to reach the benchmark, and clinched 103 career titles before retiring in 2022. He held the world number one ranking for a record 237 weeks straight between 2004 and 2008. The Swiss held the top spot in the ATP rankings for 310 weeks during his career, and had long rivalries with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, the two others in the "big three" of men's tennis at the time.
