Press Release

DDCA again violates transparency norms. Elected Office bearers interfere in fair selection. Recall junior selection meeting to favour player.

n a strange turn of events in the already struggling cricket scene in Delhi, DDCA saw another low today with an office bearer forcing the junior selection committee to reconvene for the selection of under 16 team of Delhi. It is learnt from sources that the junior selection committee was convened under the chairmanship of Mr. Pravin Gupta Chief selector in presence of the Mr. Ashok Sharma Secretary DDCA who is stated to be its convener. Though a 17 member team was selected by the selectors in the late afternoon, before the same could be announced, one of its office bearer Mr. Amit Grover Joint Secretary forced the selectors to reconvene the meeting in the late evening only to push one player, Madhav Aggarwal in the team. All the selectors opposed the said name as the said player was not even in their list of players short listed for registration for this season and was previously included in the list of stand-by players only on the insistence of the office bearer. Though Mr. Ashok Sharma who attended this meeting as well, tried to reason with Mr. Grover, however, his determination to get the boy included was unfettered. The issue was immediately brought to the attention of DDCA president Mr. Rohan Jaitley who was of the firm view that once selectors have independently selected the team any interference by any quarter is unacceptable. It was after his interference that the second meeting was called of mid way.
