UPDATE 1-Madagascar president Rajoelina to make live address on Facebook

(Adds details, background) ANTANANARIVO, Oct 3 (Reuters) – Madagascar's President Andry Rajoelina is expected to make a live address on his Facebook at 1000 GMT on Friday, a post on his page said, as protests continue to unfold in the country. Inspired by similar youth-led "Gen Z" demonstrations in Kenya and Nepal, the protests, which began last week, have grown into the largest wave of unrest Madagascar has seen in years, posing a serious challenge to Rajoelina, who was re-elected in 2023. The president disbanded the government late on Monday, an attempt to quell public anger, but the move has done little to address grievances that initially erupted in the capital over worsening water shortages and power outages. In a post on his X account on Friday, Rajoelina said he had also met various groups for the past three days to discuss the situation in the country.
