EUROPE POWER-Surge in wind output to weigh on Monday spot prices

PARIS, Oct 17 (Reuters) – A strong rise in regional wind power supply is expected to bring spot prices down on Monday. The German and French Monday baseload power contracts, had not started trading by 0824 GMT on Friday, after closing at respectively 108 and 90 euros per megawatt hour on Thursday, LSEG data showed. German residual load is seen decreasing by 16.2 gigawatts (GW) on Monday, with the rest of the region also recording losses, mainly due to an increase in wind power supply, said LSEG analyst Xiulan He. German wind power output is expected to jump by 16.9 GW to 32.6 GW on Monday, while French wind power generation is projected to add 8 GW to 12.6 GW, LSEG data showed. German solar power supply is forecast to dip by 2.3 GW to 3.7 GW. Power consumption in Germany is forecast to fall 1.5 GW to 55.4 GW on Monday, while demand in France is expected to drop by 2.5 GW to 45.1 GW. French nuclear availability rose three percentage points to 72% of total capacity. German year-ahead power shed 0.7% to 87.40 euros/MWh, while the French 2026 baseload contract fell 0.2% to 56.80 euros/MWh. In the European carbon market, the benchmark contract fell 1.6% to 78.28 euros a metric ton. The EEX bourse said it will extend maturities for its German Power Base Month Futures and Options contracts to 24 months on December 8, to allow for extended trading opportunities. In a statement announcing the date, it said that with close to 5,000 TWh traded so far this year of German power derivatives, the country's contribution makes it the EEX's most liquid power futures market segment.
