(SOUNDBITE) (English) AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER, SCOTT BOLAND, SAYING: "I think you always want to try and take down the best players. Like in the past when Joe Root's been captain, you always want to try and take down, not take down, but you want to make sure they have as little impact as you can. And obviously England have got quite a few good batters. We will be looking to do that too. But yeah, hopefully we can keep Joe Root and the guys through the middle order pretty quiet." 6. AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER USMAN KHAWAJA BATTING 7. AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER CAMERON GREEN BOWLING 8. AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER MARNUS LABUSCHAGNE CATCHING BALL WITH BASEBALL MITT 9. AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER JAKE WEATHERALD BATTING 10. (SOUNDBITE) (English) AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER, SCOTT BOLAND, SAYING: "Yeah played against him (Jake Weatherald) for the best part of eight years I reckon. And he's someone who's always been an opening batter that can sort of take the game away from you in pretty quick time. So I think, yeah, he's one of those guys that you need to be well-prepared against and I know it'd be exciting if he plays on Friday, it'll be exciting to see him bat or whenever we get a chance to bat, cause he can be someone who can take the pressure off all the other guys." 11. AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER MITCHELL STARC BOWLING 12. AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER NATHAN LYON BOWLING 13. WEATHERALD 14. (SOUNDBITE) (English) AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER, SCOTT BOLAND, SAYING: "I think he (Brendan Doggett) brings a real skill. He's like a fast out swing bowler and he's someone who can bowl really long spells, bowls a lot of overs. When he's playing for South Australia, he tends to bowl, I know he can bowl 20 or 25 in a day. Like they sort of push their quicks a little bit more than what some other teams do. But he's someone who's tremendously fit and if he gets a nod it'll be exciting to see him play." 15. AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER BRENDAN DOGGETT BOWLING 16. (SOUNDBITE) (English) AUSTRALIAN CRICKETER, SCOTT BOLAND, SAYING: "It'll be obviously be really special for him and his family and the Australian Indigenous community. But I think it just gives our kids like a real, you know, pathway that can see two guys playing. When you watch AFL, you watch NRL, and there's numerous guys who are playing in the same team or playing for Australia or whatever it is. I think it gives like a real pathway that they can see that there's two guys playing and hopefully they want to take that step into playing cricket because cricket is not as big in the Indigenous communities as what AFL and rugby league is, so hopefully we can try and shift it there I guess." 17. AUSTRALIAN STAFF LOOKING AT TEST PITCH STORY: Australian fast bowler Scott Boland said on Monday (November 17) that he was aiming to ‘keep quiet’ and limit the impact Joe Root will have on the upcoming Ashes series. Boland is expected to join Mitchell Starc and Brendan Doggett in an Australia pace attack for the first Ashes test starting on Friday (November 21) that not many saw coming. Doggett would become just the third Indigenous Australian to play test cricket following fellow pace bowler Boland and mentor Jason Gillespie, the former South Australia coach. Boland said it would be a boost for Indigenous communities to see both he and Doggett in the test XI. Australia's indigenous communities are well-represented in professional Australian Rules football (AFL) and the National Rugby League but relatively scarce in elite cricket. Fellow journeyman Jake Weatherald is also in line to debut and open the batting with Usman Khawaja. The first test against England starts at Perth Stadium on Friday (November 21) with further clashes taking place in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney around New Year.
