ITALY HEAD COACH, GENNARO GATTUSO, TAKING SEAT AS PRESS CONFERENCE STARTS 2. PRESS CONFERENCE STARTING 3. (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) ITALY HEAD COACH, GENNARO GATTUSO, SAYING: “I like the willingness of the boys. It's a team that always trains at the top (level), it's a team that is starting to get along well together, that when they play, we manage to do, we want to try to do certain things: sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don't yet. And then, you talk about the 16 goals, but for me, the work the forwards are doing is incredible.” 4. CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS 5. (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) ITALY HEAD COACH, GENNARO GATTUSO, SAYING: “Today, guys, there's no point in hiding. It hasn't been easy, either for you or for us. In fact, you did well to ask me this question, because I want to thank the police, who have done an incredible job over the last few days. Certainly, for the injured Rai journalist, who they said had problems today, was hit on the head with a stone and is in a very serious condition, great solidarity for the girl.” 6. CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS 7. (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) ITALY HEAD COACH, GENNARO GATTUSO, SAYING: “Today's 10,000 are worth 30,000, 40,000. These are not just empty words. We passed by on the bus and there was an incredible queue an hour and a half earlier. You understand that only those who are passionate, only those who have self-love do what they did today, with everything that was said, everything that happened. And bringing 10,000 people, in my opinion, was worth an incredible amount.” 8. CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS 9. (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) ITALY HEAD COACH, GENNARO GATTUSO, SAYING: “You can feel that people want this team, the team, to wear the blue shirt and see them participate in the World Cup at all costs. We feel it, and we must do everything we can to make it happen. We know it won't be easy, but we are certainly grateful for all the affection we are receiving and will not forget it.” 10. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ISRAEL HEAD COACH, RAN BEN-SHIMON, SAYING: “We have had a tough match against a quality national team like Italy. The result is not the correct result we searched for, but we played against a very quality national team that punish you in every mistake. And I’m very satisfied from my national team. And I think that Mister Gattuso is a good gentleman, he’s making a good job.” 14. CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS STORY: Italy's head coach, Gennaro Gattuso, praised soccer fans and the police on Tuesday (October 14) as he spoke to journalists after winning the World Cup qualifier against Israel, securing a spot in the playoffs.    Playing at Friuli stadium in the northern Italian city of Udine, Gattuso's team beat Israel 3-0 thanks to a Mateo Retegui double and a late goal from Gianluca Mancini.    "It's a team that always trains at the top (level), it's a team that is starting to get along well together,"  Gattuso said, speaking during a press conference.    Italy failed to qualify for the last two World Cups, twice missing out in the playoffs, and the dreaded backdoor route now looks their most likely chance as Norway lead Group I with 18 points against the Azzurri's 15, with two games left to play.    "You can feel that people want this team to participate in the World Cup at all costs," Italy's coach said, promising that the team will do their best to satisfy their supporters.    Italy are six clear of Israel, who have only one game left and cannot overtake Gennaro Gattuso's side.     "The result is not the correct result we searched for, but we played against a very quality national team," Israel's head coach, Ran Ben-Shimon, said after the match.    While the match was taking place, with an attendance estimated at around 10,000 in the 25,000-seat stadium, tensions arose in the city centre between police and some demonstrators at a pro-Palestinian march organised for the same day.    The police responded by firing tear gas and using water cannons against the protesters, who threw firecrackers and crowd control barriers.    The Ansa news agency reported that a journalist was injured in the clashes and rushed to hospital.
