TOKYO, Sept 30 (Reuters) – Kansai Electric Power shut down the 826 megawatt (MW) No.1 reactor at its Takahama nuclear power station in western Japan for scheduled maintenance and refuelling on September 6, a company spokesperson said. The utility plans to restart it in late November. As of Tuesday, Japan has 11 reactors in operation, with a combined capacity of 10,377 MW. Many companies are undergoing a re-licensing process to meet stricter safety standards implemented after the 2011 Fukushima disaster. Prior to the disaster, they operated 54 reactors. The table below shows the status of Japan's nuclear power plants. The regional utilities are: Chubu Electric Power, Chugoku Electric Power, Hokkaido Electric Power , Hokuriku Electric Power, Kansai Electric Power, Kyushu Electric Power, Shikoku Electric Power, Tohoku Electric Power and Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco). In the table, the companies are referred to by their regional names. Japan Atomic Power Company (Japco), a nuclear energy company, owns two reactors.
